"Killer Joe" (2011), Directed by William Friedkin

"Killer Joe" is far from cinematic perfection, yet it is rare to witness such shameless entertainment. Director William Friedken is no stranger to controversy with "The Exorcist" under his belt, a widely banned film at the time because of the religious taboos it insensitively touches.

In a similar (yet significantly different) manner "Killer Joe" rings highly insensitive in its approach to violence and justice. I had never heard of this film and likely would never have until reading an article of (junk), something like "5 Films You Should Never Watch With Your Parents," a disappointingly stupid list with a catchy enough title being the controversy lover I am.

To quote the (arguable) protagonist, "Nothing is worse than regret. Not cancer, not getting eatin' by a shark, nothin'... "I personally agree to an extent, and that being said I also don't regret reading that junk article nor spending an hour and forty minutes watching this film. On the contrary I would highly recommend watching it... just not with your parents. -- And now for another ironic and rather hilarious quote from the “nothing is worse” flip-flop motif in this unusual film's vein:

"A baby? A baby?! A baby!"
Joe: "You know.... all she did was suck his cock and try to steal your money. It could have been worse."

Hansel: "...How?"

[pause]

Joe: "Well... …. … nah, I suppose that's about as bad as it gets."

Overall: 8.5/10
